The Alsatian at St. Joseph is part of the Saint Joseph Care Center campus which carries the rich tradition of Catholic heath care since 1927. This community, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Mark, does not discriminate against age, race, sex, religion, political beliefs, disease, or disability in admissions, room assignments, care, or use of facilities.
More than one-hundred and fifty years ago, the Sisters of St. Joseph order was founded in the province of Alsace in France. the Sisters acquired the ancient St. Mark Benedictine Monastery located in a scenic, mountainous area of Alsace. They soon spread their good works into the Black forest region of Germany.
In 1926, a small group of courageous Sisters answered the call from Bishop Joseph Schrembs to come to America and minister to the aging in Louisville. The Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Mark, who continue to work here at St. Joseph, remain affiliated with their Motherhouse in the enchanting Alsatian area.
It is in the tradition of the Sisters' loving care and compelling spirit to meet the changing needs of the peoples of God, that we dedicate and name our Independent living, The Alsatian at St. Joseph.
